Fraudulent Case: Joby George Thadathil held in police custody

 

Kochi: Muvattupuzha police have got the custody of financial fraudulence accused UK based Malayalee businessman Joby George Thadathil in their custody for further investigation following a court order, here on Tuesday. The accused will remain in police custody for a day and half. Police spared the second defendant and Joby’s wife Sunimol from police custody, though. Joby George, who hails from Kallara, Kottayam was charged with financial scam that involves a whooping £ 1.4 million (equivalent to INR 130,000,000).

Joby was incriminated for grabbing INR 2.4 crores from George Mangalath, a native of Madvoor promising an MBBS admission for his son in New Castle University. With George registering a case against Joby with Muvattupuzha police, more people came in against him with similar charges. Following the same, police issued a look-out notice against Joby who was then residing in the UK. Joby and his wife flew to India two days back to appear before M.N. Ramesh, DYSp Muvattupuzha police, Investigation Officer of this case. Police quizzed the couple for eight hours before taking them to the court.

Muvattupuzha magistrate T.D.Byju granted only one and a half days. Joby’s advocates defended against the police’s plea for additional police custody which was declined by the court. Assistant Public prosecutor Wilson Thomas appeared for prosecution. The British passports of the both accused where held with the court. Laptops and Ipad of the couple were also taken by the police. A case has also been registered in accordance with Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) against Joby George following an allegation of him doing a huge amount of foreign transaction in a shorter period. An amount of rupees 13.18 crore has been transacted through Joby’s Bank account from 2010 August 8 to 2011 April 15 and rupees 25 lakes only after three months, police said. Enforcement department is also investigating his financial transactions.
